A birthday in review

This is me, yesterday morning, six thirty-ish a.m., with what has proved to be (thus far) an anonymous birthday greeting! So, to my anonymous friend, if you're out there, thanks! Oh, and remember, turnabout is fair play...

It was a good birthday. Really, it was. Thanks for all your birthday greetings and well wishes in my post yesterday! You really did make my day! May the Lord return to you many times over the blessings you have extended to me--not just those of you who commented, but those of you who called, who emailed, who sent cards, who baked a cake, and yes, even to you who placed an obnoxious sign in my front yard!

One of the biggest highlights of the day: LOTS of chocolate! Dark chocolate at that, the best kind! From candy bars to a homemade deep dark chocolate cake, my chocolate addiction has no hope of abating--and who would want it to?

Last night, as my men sang to me, I was overwhelmed. Not by their singing so much, though it is silliness a tradition we as a family cherish. "This is the good stuff," I thought to myself. "This is what life is about." The good life. A life of family, a husband who spoils me and children who still hug me. A life of gratitude and humility. A realization of the undeserved blessings of a holy God.

This
is life: to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He sent (John 17:3). To do justice and to love mercy and to walk humbly with my God (Mic. 6:8).

May you too know the good life, the only live worth living, the life that is hidden with Christ in God (Col. 3:2). He is Life!

  2. What a great day!

Love the sign. Although the "turnabout is fair play" will be a little difficult if you never figure out who did it! LOL

Family, friends, dark chocolate, God's blessings - yep, it doesn't get any better than that!!

  7. Awww, don't you love the sign?! Someone was thinking of you ahead of time. It warms my heart when I receive a gift that I know took some forethought.

I was wishing for lots of chocolate in your day. So glad you had a great celebration. May you always be the princess to your group of men.

  8. What a fun sign!

I am glad your day was blessed!

On my 40th birthday my mother in law called a gave me such a blessing. She said, "your twenties and thirties are behind you (and all that went with them ;) and the forties are ahead of you. These will be some of the best years if your life if you let them!" I have held on to this and shared it with every dear friend who has turned 40 after me.

  15. Happy birthday, sweet Internet friend. I'm sorry I'm late. But it looks like your real-life friends made a big deal over you, as it should be.

May God continue to grow your spirit into His son's likeness -- and may His glory be rich upon you.

  18. Oh man, I missed it! Hope you had a great birthday. In fact, I think once you hit 40,you get to celebrate for at least a whole week. I could be wrong, maybe it's longer.

I'm going to officially be "middle-aged" this year - half way to 90!

And, just so you don't feel like 40 is any big deal or anything, my neighbor, Cliff, is turning 104 in 2 days. He lives with his 70+ daughter who takes care of him.
