Jesus wants the rose

Go here. Watch Matt Chandler's story that the gospel is for broken sinners.

HT: Desiring God blog

  1. I guess I understand both perspectives. I think that pastor was trying to illustrate the damage which results from moral impurity. (And the Bible does clearly admonish us to be pure.) But I also understand Mr. Chandler's frustration because the Gospel IS exactly that - Good News! Jesus WANTS the rose. He is a Redeemer God! What a beautiful, beautiful truth!

  2. Grace,

I suggest listening to the whole session--it was from the 2009 Desiring God Pastors Conference--Chandler was sharing the story as sort of the last straw which drove him to go into itinerant ministry. As he continues to tell his story, it is clear that the Lord has disciplined him on that as he realized the importance of Christian community and sanctification in the local church.

Anyway, the first time I hear this story, I pretty much wept all day . . . I guess as I grow in Christ, I begin to recognize more and more of my own wickedness and the more and more I see that I am that rose and praise God that Jesus wants the rose.

  3. Oh, Drew! We ALL are the rose. It just takes some of us longer than others to realize it.
