What I've Been Doing

I have NOT been:

  • Blogging, twittering, Facebooking, nor much of anything else computer related. I have been checking email but that's about it.

I have been:

  • Grieving over Haiti.

  • Mad at Pat Robertson.

  • Cheering at basketball games. And, if you can indulge me a moment, I just have to make mention of the fact that my oldest son's team is 19-3 and have a good chance of finishing the season with (what I've been told is) a record setting 24 wins. Okay, mama-moment now over.

  • Shopping at thrift stores. I'm a thrifty newbie but it was great fun! My friend and I headed to the big(ger) city south of us in search of skirts for our upcoming mission trip to Nicaragua. It was suggested the ladies on the mission team wear long skirts to the evening church services and to the women's conference yours truly will be teaching. Since both of us are more apt to wear pants than skirts, we decided to see what kind of bargains we could find. I scored big on our first stop: five skirts (three to take and leave, two to keep) for less than SEVEN BUCKS.

  • Getting nervous about the upcoming mission trip.

  • Already homesick when I consider the upcoming mission trip.

  • Attempting to get my house back in order. After packing up all the Christmas decorations (such as it is), I never really put back my usual "decor" (such as it is). I tried my hand at decorating (such as it is) this week. You know, I could have posted pictures of all my tablescapes and such, pretending I was the Nester but I didn't because the Nester, I am not.

  • Preparing for Bible study that began today (finally!). Holiness will be a tough subject but I'm so excited and our conversation this morning only fed my sense of anticipation.

  • Practicing hospitality. Hosting a community group with church, planning a birthday party--in other words, I'm way outside my comfort zone. I've often wished I were more hospitable; now that I am (however reluctantly), I'm wishing I knew how to do it with ease and grace!

So, what have you been up to?

  3. Writing, writing, and then some more writing. Editing my manuscript, writing in my new manuscript, and then working on blog posts. Have I told you how much I love to write?

Anyway, on others fronts, exercising, bathing, laundry, rec basketball, watching "24", AI, Biggest Loser, and occasionally, sleeping.

Like your list a whole lot better. Love hearing about your upcoming mission trip. When?

prayers and peace for you this day~elaine

  4. For the record, I'm a long-skirt gal. Never really moved away from them after their popularity years ago. They go great with my cowgirl boots! I know; fashionista I am not. But I love the clothes that I wear, and I'm perfectly OK with anyone who doesnt... like the clothes that I wear. Ah, the joy of being 43.

    peace~elaine

  5. I have been undone by the circumstances in Haiti, too. We've just been doing our regular, boring things. I enjoyed reading about what you're doing, though. Make sure you let us know when you'll be in Nicaragua and when you'll be teaching. I want to pray for you.

  6. I think my ridiculously long email today told you what I've been doing! Except I didn't say that I've been reading "Anne of Avonlea", and that's certainly worth mentioning!

  7. I agree with Leslie.....let us know when and how we can be praying for you and your Nicaragua trip. And Haiti....so hard to think about it, so heartbreaking. Ditto on the mad at Pat Robertson as well.

  8. Well. If it makes you feel any better - I'm still trying to get my house back in order as well.

AWESOME thrift store finds! That's just great! I love long skirts, actually, but find them incredibly difficult to locate! Mostly, I'm a jeans kind of girl.

  9. I too have been away from the computer. Well...I check email and read blogs, but fail to post on my own. Oh well. I was too busy last week to do much. Before my "bug" I remodeled my parents' dining room and on Mon and Tues started building a new chicken coop with my Dad! I come home and they put me to work! Next on the list: the kitchen and I've already been informed we're doing the foyer when I come home in April!

  10. I'm thinking my house will never be back in order. Though I did finally take down the outdoor Christmas lights last week... Little by little, I guess.

  11. I read this post the other day and was convicted when you said that you've been "grieving over Haiti." I've been concerned, but not grieving.

Lord, help us to love our neighbors, and help us to grieve for them.
